SECRÉTAIRE
walnut veneer over wood with rosewood, maple and cypress inlays, gilded bronze mounts, tabletop in marble
The front of this piece, framed by beveled risers, is separated into three distinct areas. Just below the top is a shallow drawer. Below this is a pair of davenport-style doors behind which lies an internal cabinet with four drawers and several compartments. Below this, in turn, are two doors. The secrétaire was likely made in Provence and is decorated with inlays having geometric motifs as well as floral vases, urns and a panoply of musical instruments.
