NICHOLS DECÓ ORIENTAL RUG
wool and cotton
This magnificent Chinese rug is a splendid example of early 20th-century Nichols Art Deco style.
The Nichols Deco rug originated in the early 20th century through the initiative of Walter Nichols, an American merchant who moved to China and opened a rug factory in 1924 destined for the American market; while maintaining classic Chinese decorations, the style of these objects was decidedly innovative. The choice of colored, bright, and silky wools, spun to have more thickness, was particularly appreciated by the American market.
With a solid, navy blue background and cascades of flowers on the sides, our rug captures the essence of Chinese culture and tradition. Nichols rugs are distinguished by their intricate floral patterns, vibrant colors, and finely crafted details. Handwoven with wool and cotton in the outer border, our rug is a testament to Chinese craftsmanship.
