SÈVRES-STYLE CENTREPIECE
Bleu de Roi porcelain, gilded bronze applications
This Sèvres-style centerpiece, typical of the Napoleon III period, is a superb example of 19th-century decorative art, where the chromatic depth of porcelain meets the sumptuousness of gilded metal.
The work is distinguished by its wide, hemispherical bowl in Bleu de Roi porcelain – an intense, vitreous cobalt blue that serves as a perfect chromatic counterpoint to the rich, finely chased gilded bronze mount. The upper rim is embellished with a dramatic crown of intertwined oak leaves and acorns, crafted with openwork techniques that lend a sense of organic lightness to the structure. On the sides, two imposing double-scroll handles with leaf decorations frame the vessel, providing both verticality and a Neoclassical silhouette.
The central body is supported by a spool-shaped stem connecting the bowl to an equally elaborate circular base. Here, a band decorated with a Greek key motif recalls the rigor of the Empire style, while the entire piece rests on elegant zoomorphic feet.
