BUREAU ‘MAZARIN’
inlaid wood with different wood species
The name of this type of furniture is derived from the surname of Louis XIV’s prime minister, the powerful Cardinal Jules Mazarin, who succeeded Richelieu, and was known for his vast collection of art and furniture.
This type of furniture originated in France in the 17th century, and later became popular in the rest of Europe, without undergoing any alterations in terms of design. Our desk is entirely inlaid with different woods to compose geometric design, features a sculpted wavy front divided in three parts with convex lateral sections. In the centre, there is an under-top drawer and a back door. The eight inverted, truncated pyramidal legs are joined in two groups of four by pinnacle-centred crossbeams. Flattened onion-shaped feet complete the legs of the desk.
