CENTER CONSOLE
gilded and lacquered wood, peach-blossom marble top
This important Neoclassical centre console features a magnificent “Fior di Pesco” (“peach blossom”) marble top, which is shaped and recessed within the gilded wooden structure.
“Fior di Pesco” is a light-toned Italian brecciated marble, renowned for its delicate chromatic tones ranging from the pure white to soft grey and light green, with ivory, grey, and pinkish veins. Since ancient times, this precious marble has been widely appreciated and employed in important historical monuments and in ornamental works of the highest value, which enhances its inherent nobility.
The under-top band, which runs along the entire structure, is finely profiled: the upper part features a continuous leaf-motif cornice, while the lower part is punctuated by continuous beading. Animated by refined gilded volutes on a lacquered background, the band is centered on a slightly projecting element adorned with gilded acanthus leaves. The same acanthus-leaf motif is elegantly repeated in the corner blocks, from which the legs emerge.
The truncated conical legs are elegantly fluted, providing slenderness and lightness to the console; their upper portion is embellished with Corinthian capitals, while the lower part terminates in a scrolled foliate motif.
