PROCESSIONAL CRUCIFIX

brass and silver-plated metal

This processional cross is crafted from a combination of brass and silvered metal. It features a smooth, tubular joint that connects to a series of lanceolate leaves, a design element that repeats after the knot. The knot itself is cylindrical yet slightly flattened, intricately adorned on both its front and back with delicate floral and leaf motifs.

At the heart of the cross is a small bronze sculpture depicting Christ. Behind the figure’s head, a radiant halo extends outward. Both the front and back of the cross’s arms are embellished with embossed decorations, and at each end, there are cherub heads, one on every side.

Traditionally, this type of processional cross would be mounted on a wooden pole and carried at the head of a religious procession. This custom is well-documented in numerous historical artworks and religious texts.
