MONUMENTAL CANDLESTICK
Sculpted and carved wood, with polychrome decoration and gilding.
This important and finely sculpted candlestick consists of a triangular base supported by caryatids and centered by a cherub head. Above a lantern, an amorino figure wearing a fluttering cloth supports a cornucopia, leaning it against its shoulder.
The refined sculptural quality makes this work an important testimonial of late Renaissance.
