VENUS
Carrara marble
This marble sculpture depicts a naked woman holding a box with fruit and a cloth stole. The graceful carving suggests the work of a sculptor, probably a Tuscan active between the 17th and 18th century. Indeed, the representation of this deity, probably Venus, is still typically Baroque in style and far removed from neoclassicism.
We can note the accurate portrayal of the face, the delicate rendering of the hairstyle and also the quality of the material, an almost pure Carrara marble, with beautiful grey filaments animating the surface.
