THE RAPE OF THE SABINE WOMEN

gilt bronze

This gilt bronze sculpture evokes the famous Rape of the Sabines by Giambologna, sculpted in marble for the Loggia dei Lanzi in Piazza della Signoria, Florence. The work enjoyed extraordinary success, as highlighted by the various versions produced of it, such as this one from the famous Chiurazzi foundry, active in Naples in the 19th and 20th century. The workshop produced bronze casts of classical and Renaissance sculptures using the lost wax technique.
