PAIR OF SALOMONIC COLUMNS
sculpted and gilt wood
This pair of richly decorated and gilded Solomonic columns, shows a twisted body that spirals from the base to the capital. This particular helical form is further enhanced by intricate ornamentation of vine branches, with leaves and bunches of grapes. The well-preserved gilding contributes to an overall effect of opulence and grandeur.
The base comprises a circular plinth, also gilded and decorated, which provides stability and an elegant support. The Corinthian capitals, located at the pinnacle of the columns, feature meticulously carved scrolls and acanthus leaves, which are a defining feature of the Baroque style.
In their entirety, the columns evoke an aura of opulence and majesty, suggesting a provenance from a religious or high aristocratic context. Such decorative elements were traditionally employed to embellish altars, canopies, or palace interiors, hence their high level of craftmanship.
