COPAIR OF CANDELABRA WITH BASES
Gilt bronze
Elegant pair of twelve-light gilt-bronze candelabras, Empire style
The fluted shaft is enveloped at the base by a double corolla of palm leaves and rests on the pedestal by means of a circular base, decorated on each side with animal paws, interspersed with whirls of leaves and Persian palmettes. The podium, on the other hand, has a linear triangular structure.
The fluted column culminates in a capital decorated with acanthus leaves from which the first seven-light band of the candelabra departs. Each candle holder is decorated with acanthus leaves and features bobeches. The second order of arms has palm leaves as a decorative motif, while the central candle holder is consistent with the first order.
The model for these candelabras, with pillars wrapped in palm and acanthus leaves, and animal paw bases, is derived in part from ancient marble sculptural compositions.
It is worth highlighting the non-contemporary bases on which the two candelabras rest, made of stone and a wooden shaft, undoubtedly of 20th-century manufacture.
