PAIR OF ANGELS
sculpted wood, with polychrome decoration and gilt parts
Kneeling on steps in fake marble decorated by scrolls, the two angels, shown in prayer with their large gilt wings spread behind them, were certainly once accessories of a sacred image, which may have been either a painting or a sculpture. As they are hollow on the rear, it may furthermore be supposed that they were once placed against a wall.
