FOUNTAIN WITH ANGEL
Carrara marble
This majestic angel’s head sculpted in a Roman Baroque style was probably part of a larger architectural composition. In fact, it is a Carrara marble water jet, a decorative element in widespread use from the 17th century onwards, also evidenced by the use of the old-style drill for the cherub’s curls. In our case, given the subject’s religious appeal, it seems likely that it would have been placed near a place of worship, as suggested by other sacristy pools from the same period.
