DORMEUSE, VICTORIAN STYLE
Mahogany
This elegant English mahogany dormeuse is a classic example of Victorian-style furniture, distinguished by the use of dark woods of eastern origin and the finely carved and arched shapes of the back and feet.
The dormeuse was invented in the late 18th century for the nobility and middles classes to rest on during the day, recalling the triclinia used in antiquity. It could be made in the shape of an elongated sofa with a raised back or with a side rest of a different height at the end, as in our case.
