The nymph who was desired by Apollo but escaped by changing herself into a laurel plant is represented next to the trunk of a tree that was beloved by the gods. Daphne, her beautiful nude body set in an elegant counterpose and shown here with a beautiful face of classical origin, covers herself modestly with a branch.
