BUST OF SAINT PAUL
carved wood painted to simulate bronze
The showy and voluminous drapery of these two busts is clearly reminiscent of Baroque sculpture. Yet the heavy imprint of tradition is visible in the faces of these apostles, founders of the Church, reflecting the influence of traditional portraiture in Roman statuary.
