Napoli, seconda metà del XVIII secolo

PAIR OF CONSOLES

carved, gilded and gold-glazed wood; “lumachella” stone tops with golden frames

Characterized by a typically Neapolitan decorative repertory, these small consoles have a rather unique architectonic structure: the pillar that supports the top rises up from the curled base and is interrupted at one-third of its height to make room for a moulded top. It then continues its rise and branches out in several spirals that support the top, which is enclosed by a moulded frame. In the centre, there is a small turned column.
