PAIR OF CANDELABRAS
coated and gilded bronze
The stem of this pair of candelabras, characterized respectively by the presence of a satyr in the act of playing a flute and a meanad accompanying him with cymbals, is composed by trees arising from drums of fluted columns on molded bases. In the upper part, the leafy arms support the bobèches.
The inscription “Clodion” on the bases of both candelabras refers to models by Claude Michel, better known by his pseudonym Clodion (1738-1814), renowned French sculptor of the Rococo period.
