MONUMENTAL CANDLESTICK
sculpted and carved wood, with highlights in silver with gilt varnish
This large candlestick has very probably once been part of the liturgical Easter accessories for an important church in central-southern Italy. The shaft, turned in the shape of a balustrade, is finely sculpted with vegetal motifs and rock-and shell patterns. The triangular base, supported by onion-shaped feet, is finely decorated with leaf motifs alternated by plaques and conches.
