CREDENCE VASE
scagliola, gilt bronze
This vase of considerable side is peculiar because it is made in scagliola, an ancient technique which, utilizing a very fine type of plaster obtained from ‘moonstone’ mixed with colour, makes it possible to imitate mosaics with semi-precious stones or rare types of marble. In this case Alps green marble is imitated with impressive realism.
The vase is embellished by two goat heads with garlands in gilt bronze.
