It is a matter of an invention by Innocenzo Francucci da Imola (1490 c.-1550 c.) \u2013 an important Raphaelesque painter who chiefly worked in his native Romagna but who also had spent periods in Florence \u2013 which is known in a number of versions, among which<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>the \u2018Madonna with Child and the saints Infant St. John, Francis and Clare\u2019 at the Pinacoteca Nazionale of Bologna, which may be dated to the third or fourth decade of the Sixteenth century.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The three works which have been linked by the scholar, and which like the present work are characterized by being arranged mirrorwise with respect to Innocenzo\u2019s prototype as well as by a \u201cmore personal interpretation\u201d and the \u201catmosphere of family life\u201d, all show Christ giving the Infant St. John a cherry. Anna Tambini has hypothetically suggested that two of these paintings, of which composition is inspired by Francucci\u2019s work, may be attributed to Vincenzo d&#8217;Onofrio da Imola, a mysterious painter who has been indicated as the author of one of these works, and for which the scholar has suggested a documentary identification.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Alessandro Nesi &#8211; author of a study about the painting &#8211; has confirmed the oral attribution given by the researcher linking this panel to the so-called group \u2018Vincenzo d\u2019Onofrio da Imola\u2019 already suggested by Tambini. According to Nesi, however, the works belonging to this \u2018corpus\u2019 show some stylistic differences.
