This splendid mantel clock fully embodies the Neoclassical style, which was widespread in France between the late 18th century and the first decades of the 19th century.<\/p>\n
Dominating the composition is a standing female figure in patinated bronze, depicted frontally with a solemn and composed attitude, recalling the models of classical Greco-Roman art. This reference is further emphasized by the soft, deep folds of the long garment, which fall vertically to the bare feet, as well as by the hairstyle, with neatly arranged curls held by a band.<\/p>\n
At the center of the composition, the figure supports the clock dial with both hands. The dial appears as a circular element framed by a gilt bezel decorated with a stylized petal motif. The dial, in white enamel, is marked with Roman numerals.<\/p>\n
The sculpture rests on an architectural base composed of two levels: an upper plinth in Baveno pink granite, and a lower base in finely chased gilt bronze, decorated with ornamental motifs of classical taste.<\/p>\n
From a stylistic point of view, the piece perfectly reflects the aesthetic of the Empire period, when mantel clocks were not only timekeeping instruments but also decorative and symbolic objects, often inspired by classical antiquity and designed to adorn salons and formal reception rooms.<\/p>\n
